The Appalachia Dam to Appalachia Powerhouse stretch of Hiawassee River
in Tennessee is 4.8 miles long and is a class 3 - 4 section of whitewater.
Although much of the Hiawassee River contains only Class I and II rapids, making it the perfect
whitewater rafting adventure spot for families with small children and those that are new to whitewater rafting.
The river has mostly calm
flat water and easy rapids, some
maneuvering necessary, but there are a few
rapids that are difficult, with some complex maneuvering required. These provide an
challenge. The Hiawassee is an excellent river to learn and practice basic
kayaking and canoeing skills.
