Hiawassee River is a stocked trout fishery managed by Tennessee
Wildlife Resources Agency. A three-mile section, between Big Bend
and the L&N railroad bridge is designated as a quality trout fishing
area. River access parking is located along TN 30 at Hiawassee River
Picnic Area, and off Hiawassee River Road (Forest Road 108) at
Childers Creek, Big Bend, pull-offs alongside the river, and at the
roads’ end. The scenic Hiawassee River in Reliance, Tennessee is
considered a tailrace fishery. The constant water temperatures
provide for year-round trout fishing here. It flows 11 miles
through a tunnel to Appalachia powerhouse. Good fishing. The
Hiawassee River has much of what is needed to become a world class
fishery. The river lies within the Cherokee National Forest and has
great public access for millions in the southeast.
